What is WIOA?

WIOA stands for the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act. This replaced the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) in July 2015. WIOA was designed to help residents get the training and education to launch careers in local industries. At the same time, WIOA also provides a steady stream of workers to area businesses to keep the economy growing. Services are broken down into youth, adult, and dislocated worker.

Matt was looking for a career that exercised both his mind and hands. A quick assessment with WIOA showed that he would be a great fit for an upcoming manufacturing training. Matt was keen to learn more. WIOA sponsored his training, and after only four months, he earned both a certificate and a passion for machine tool programming. Matt used his WIOA resources to help applying for jobs, take industry tours, and brush up his resume and interviewing skills. He got three job offers right off the bat, and today he's earning enough to save up for a trip to visit his sister in Japan. He says his favorite part about the career he's starting is that it keeps him mentally stimulated. Congratulations, Matt!
