Introduction
Forward Service Corporation has the distinction of being the only private non-profit organization in Wisconsin to establish an Educational Talent Search program. Educational Talent Search is funded by the Department of Education under the TRIO programs. The program intent is to assist middle school/high school students with the necessary understanding, knowledge, skills and self-esteem to continue in and graduate from high school. The Educational Talent Search program also helps students that have been traditionally underrepresented to explore training and educational options, and enroll in postsecondary institutions.

It is my pleasure to give thanks to the Educational Talent Search Trio Program for all the opportunities I have been given. As a student, I was given one opportunity to prove all that I had. That one opportunity turned me into a NCAA two-sport scholar athlete two seasons in a row. That was only the start to what was yet to come. I transferred to the University of Minnesota with the mind set and determination that I could do anything. I am pursuing a degree in (orthopedic) sports medicine, with the aspiration of being a student athletic trainer 3 seasons with the University of Minnesota and 1 training season with the University of Southern California football program. I have found my love for sports, medicine, and people.

Program Expectations
High expectations and standards are at the core of the Educational Talent Search Program. Students work collaboratively with others, improve their critical thinking skills, and become better learners. The learning environment is geared toward providing students with the assistance and guidance to build on the students’ academic and personal strengths and talents and help students reach their full potential.

Additional Services
Educational Talent Search also provides each senior student with fee waivers for the ACTs, SATs, and for college and financial aid applications. Although Educational Talent Search does not provide financial support for students to enter college, the program does provide a great deal of assistance in helping senior students complete financial aid forms. In addition, Educational Talent Search counselors work with students to find sources of scholarships and other types of financial aid.

Program Accomplishments
Since 1995, the Forward Service Corporation Educational Talent Search program has opened the door to a more prosperous future for over 5000 students. Our many successes include:

  • A strong, continuous history.
  • An extremely low (0.1%) high school drop out rate for enrolled students.
  • Annual application and enrollment figures demonstrating the program’s success in attracting, admitting, retaining, and graduating a diverse group of students each year.
  • Exceeding its goals for preparing high-risk students to enter and graduate from post-secondary institutions. The most recent evaluation of students who graduated from the program in the last ten years showed:
    • 100% college acceptance rate
    • 93% enrollment rate
    • 88% college graduation/retention rate
  • The program now has the financial support to enroll 750 participants each year. Once accepted, students who meet all program responsibilities are continued in Educational Talent Search throughout high school. Therefore, admission to Educational Talent Search is limited and competitive. Each year, approximately 100 new students are admitted to our program.
